Metamorphosis

Updated: Oct 24, 2019

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (NKJV)

Throughout the Word of God there are examples given in His creation to give us insight into the way God works in our lives.

Complete Metamorphosis Has Four Stages: Egg, Larva, Pupa, and Adult

In each stage of complete metamorphosis, the animal looks different than at all other stages. Butterflies are an example of an insect that goes through all the stages of complete metamorphosis.

Similar to how humans call their children babies, toddlers, or teenagers.

At the end of the larval stage the insect, the pupa appears lifeless, but one of Nature’s most amazing transformations is happening. Inside the pupa, the larva’s body will completely change into a fully grown adult.

All of us have within us a “butterfly.” The original intent that God put within us from the day He created us. It seems at times that our lives seem to be like “the pupa appears lifeless” because of the things we experienced that cause us to be deterred from our Purpose.

Definition of metamorphosis

1a: change of physical form, structure, or substance especially by supernatural means

b: a striking alteration in appearance, character, or circumstances

Other words for Metamorphosis include transformation and transfiguration.

The Greek word translated “transformed” is metamorphoo. This is the word from which the English word “metamorphosis” is derived. This word refers to an inward change brought about completely apart from the power of the individual himself.

Why is it important to be transformed? If something is not growing it is dying. If you are not growing or being transformed your life cannot change. God is progressive. He is always speaking to who and what He created us to be. He does not see us as we are. He sees us according to what is in His heart.

Transformation is necessary to change so that we please God’s heart.

You may be asking yourself, “How do I become transformed?”

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)

What does this really mean? It means that as you read the Word of God, His Holy Spirit will speak to your heart and help you to understand what you are reading. As you continue to read God’s Word it will begin to change the way you think about things that have been affecting your life for many years. Mindsets and thoughts that are opposite what God’s Word says.

Notice the first part of the verse says, “And do not be conformed to this world,…”

Society, social media and yes, even our families have taught us and told us things that do not line up with God’s Word or His will. The last part says, “that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The purpose of getting God’s Word in your heart is not only to transform your thinking and your heart, it’s also that YOU proved God’s perfect will for your life.

The enemy of our souls wants us to be discouraged and focused on what is not working or has us discouraged. I want to encourage you today that you do not have to stay in the place where you were wounded. You can be transformed!

Did you know that even Jesus had to be Transfigured?

[Jesus Transfigured on the Mount ] Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. (NKJV)

This was before His disciples that were with Him. We may not know the fullness of why this had to happen. However, I believe that it speaks to God’s glory being revealed through His Son. This is what the Lord is looking for in and through us.

His ultimate goal is for us to be set free and for us to then be a witness to someone that we have influence with to bring them to Christ or encourage them to come to a greater level of relationship with Him.

The last principle I want to share about Metamorphosis is that it is not a one-time event. We are continually being changed, transformed and transfigured. A great example of this is the Potter and the Clay. The Potter is the Lord and we are the Clay.

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. (NKJV)

Notice the bold print. Made it into another vessel. Let me put it this way, the Potter literally put the Clay back on the wheel. He took some watery mud and began to poke and prod and shape until the vessel looked like He intended for that Season of life.

Does this sound familiar? Have you ever asked God, “What are you doing, Lord?”

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (NKJV)

You see, God’s goal is that we look like and act like His Son. WOW! That’s a very huge goal. However, God does the transforming and conforming. So what is our part? To be willing to become what God originally put us here to be and do and give Him all the glory! We were created for His good pleasure.

So, I will leave you with this thought. What stage are you in regarding your Metamorphosis? We are all butterflies!

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
